Vice President Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday said the government would employ 11,000 trained nurses who graduated between 2012 and 2016.

In addition, he said, 1,200 agricultural extension service officers would be recruited while 80,000 youth would be recruited into the various modules of the Youth Employment Agency this year.

Vice President Bawumia said this at a Town Hall Meeting in Accra, to give account of some achievements chalked by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Administration for the first 100 days in office.

He said the government had entered into partnership with the Kofi Annan Centre to build the capacity of 1,400 teachers in Information Communication Technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Dr Bawumia said the government would implement the digital public addressing system and issue the national identification cards this year, which would fast-track socio-economic development and enhance the business environment.

The Vice President noted that when the NPP government took over office, some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) were signing contracts that the Central Government was not aware of and so the NPP government introduced a policy through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management and Information System (GIFMIS).

He said by that, any contract that would be signed anywhere in the country must have a unique GIFMIS code to control fiscal expenditure and check outstanding government commitments.
